Green Roofs, Vegetation Types, Impact on the Thermal Effectiveness: An Experimental Study in Cyprus

Anthropogenic activities and climate change have a profound impact on the urban environment. Therefore, energy conservation is an important subject for city planners. Green roofs can provide building insulation mitigate against heat island effect. This research was conducted in Cyprus, comparing different types of green roof vegetation control with no their concomitant effects indoor temperatures. The project performed at Near East University Campus duration twelve months. experiment consisted three types, each hut had 3.5 m2 areas soil depth 8 cm. In addition, one system established without insulation, soil, vegetation. order to measure temperatures huts, Elitech RC-5 temperature data loggers were used. results showed that huts provided lower mean than during summer period. Most importantly, shrub plants lowest hot conditions. Our indicated perform role terms its subsequent use.
